Relevant complaints have been reported among residents of Afghanistan’s eastern Logar Province who say this has become a serious problem for them.
One Logar resident said that US-led forces had entered and searched his home at 2 a.m., taking with them USD 8,500 of his money.
Another resident said that some money and his personal computer had been confiscated and that he has not received a response from any organization that he has complained to so far.
However, according to one Logar authority, US-led NATO forces carry out such acts, thinking the money may be used for acts of sabotage against them.
He added that foreign forces operating in the country for more than a decade have not yet comprehended that the majority of Afghans keep their money in their homes instead of banks.
When International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) spokesman Brigadier General Carsten Jacobsen was informed of the matter, he said nothing would be seized from the people without a document and that things are confiscated for investigation purposes. He said people are given documents in return to receive their things back.
However, many Afghans complain that they have not yet received the money taken from them by foreign forces months ago.
