Ford’s First Plug-in Hybrid
The C-Max Energi will be available this fall, and it’ll be Ford’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Based on the specs, it looks like it will be a great addition to the growing field of PHEVs, competing with the Chevrolet Volt and the Prius plug-in. And it should be pretty competitive: Ford claims the C-MAX Energi gets 95 MPG-equivalent, while the Volt is rated at 93 MPGe and the Prius PHEV should also get 95 MPGe. But while the Volt has the longest electric driving range of those 3, with 35 miles (soon to be 38 miles), the C-Max Energi should still beat the Toyota with “more than 20 miles” in electric driving range vs 11 miles for the Prius PHEV.

Ford is rolling out many electric and hybrid models this year:
- Focus Electric: Production began late 2011; America’s most fuel-efficient compact with 110 MPGe city; charge time of four hours with the available 240-volt charging station – nearly half the time as Nissan Leaf
- C-MAX Hybrid: Coming this fall; projected 47 mpg city, 3 mpg better than Toyota Prius v
- All-new Fusion Hybrid: Coming this fall; projected 47 mpg expected to beat Toyota Camry Hybrid by 5 mpg highway
- Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid: Will begin production by the end of this year; aiming to be the most fuel-efficient midsize car in the world with more than 100 MPGe

There’s no word yet on price for the C-MAX Energi, though the C-MAX hybrid will sell for $25,995, so we can probably expect something around $30k (though tax credits should bring it down).
