Just like mathematics, art is a universal language.
Startup company 99Designs crowdsources designs for entrepreneurs and small businesses through a contest-like platform. Designers are assigned any type of artwork, from business cards to T-shirts — the Occupy movement, for example needed a logo and more than 3,000 designers submitted possibilities for one chosen spot.
Australian CEO Patrick Llewellyn says 99Designs is in 190 countries, and you see people all over the world finding ways to communicate through artwork.
He shares “lots of examples of what people are looking for produces a great result.” Designers and companies use things like Google Translate to bridge the gap, and 99Designs is always working to improve the communication process.
Llewellyn tells entrepreneurs to “do as much as you can with as little as you can,” which is a great piece of advice for any company that crowdsources talent.
