nsnbc : Footage Russian President Vladimir Putin gave U.S. filmmaker Oliver Stone for his documentary on Putin appears to show a U.S. air strike in Afghanistan, and not a Russian air strike in Syria.
U.S. American filmmaker Oliver Stone has so far dismissed the “mix-up” as “insignificant”. Putin showed the footage in question during an interview with the U.S.-American film director Oliver Stone while telling him the video clip showed a Russian airstrike in Syria.
The interview was subsequently included in Oliver Stone’s four-part documentary “The Putin Interviews”, which was released last week.
An inocent “insignificant” mix-up, as Stone would want the world to believe? Or rather a colossal blunder that showcases sloppy journalism on Stone’s side, and a disturbing “glitch” in the vetting of the video and the briefing of Putin?
Information about Russian forces in combat, including video footage of interest, is normally processed and vetted by the office of the General Staff (GOU), from where the vetted footage is passed on to high-ranking officials for official use.
The million dollar question is now, whether Putin or staffers at the presidency have picked their own video material that hadn’t gone through the vetting process at the GOU offices, or if someone at the GOU offices has, knowingly or inadvertently “slipped Putin a Mickey”.
