Tehran, June 24, IRNA – Foreign ministry issued a statement on the announcement of results of the UK referendum on Britain’s exit from the Europeanm Union.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran as a democracy system respects the British people’s vote on leaving the European Union and deems it as in line with the will of the majoprity of the people of that country in regulating their foreign relations,” the foreign ministry statement read.
It went to say that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always called for expansion of relations with European countries on the basise of mutual repect and non-intervention in each other’s internal affairs and Britain’s exit from the European Union will not make any changes to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s approach in this regard.
The British people voted to the exit of their country from the European Union with 51.9 percent of the votes as compared with 48.1 percent of those who voted in favor of staying in the union. A sum of 72 percent of the eligible voters took part in Britain’s referendum which was the highest since 1992 general elections in that country.
