Law enforcement officers in Polk County, Florida have arrested 11 people for using stolen Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards. The arrests were made as the result of a year-long investigation.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement which reads in part:
“The investigation lead to 11 suspects arrested or wanted with multiple criminal charges, including: Scheming to Defraud a Financial Institution, Public Assistance Fraud; Criminal Use of Personal Identification, Forgery, Fraudulent Use of Credit Card, Grand Theft, and other charges. 7 of the 11 suspects are also receiving public assistance benefits under their own name.”
“It’s pretty sad when you steal money from a program designed to help the poor. Taxpayers should be outraged with this fraud. We are committed to working with DCF and our retail partners to crack down on those who intentionally defraud our government assistance programs. These programs are for people who need them, not a bunch of thieves taking advantage of the system.” –Grady Judd
Nice looking group of individuals, huh?
These government programs were designed to help people that are experiencing hard times and we tax-payers are the ones that fund these programs.
So many leeches ‘game’ the system and this needs to stop.
When we see people like this being arrested, it’s cause for celebration! They can game the system from behind bars.
God Bless.
