A TEMPORARY M*A*S*H-style hospital will open in flood-ravaged Numurkah today to meet the community’s emergency health needs.

With more than 90 homes flooded in the town and more than 30 hospital patients and aged care residents relocated, the tent hospital is intended to ease immediate health concerns during northeastern Victoria’s recovery.

Health Minister David Davis will visit Numurkah today to announce the deployment of a Temporary Urgent Care Centre, which was also used in Charlton after the January 2011 floods.

The hospital will be made up of three airconditioned tents equipped with supplies, power, and refrigeration for medicines.

The temporary hospital will be established in the Numurkah District Health Service carpark.

And in Nathalia today, the temporary levee that has helped protect the town from rising flood waters is expected to be removed.

The water level threatening the town dropped from a peak of 3.25m a week ago to 2.58m yesterday.

The SES said the prepare to evacuate order in force for areas outside the town was also expected to be lifted today.
