Updated February 25, 2012 00:10:49

Parts of south-east Queensland have been belted overnight as severe thunderstorms continue.

The Sunshine Coast has seen the greatest falls, with 100 millimetres of rain recorded at Noosa.

The weather bureau is warning very heavy rain and flash flooding are likely across parts of the Sunshine coast and Gympie.

Senior forecaster Peter Otto says strong downpours are also expected in areas further south.

“Areas throughout the south-east, so it could be Gympie, it could be the Sunshine Coast, can be even town towards the Gold Coast area ,” he said.

“Brisbane itself may get some very heavy falls tonight as a surface trough works with an upper level low to produce some heavy rain.”

The SES has received more than a dozen calls for help on the Sunshine Coast.

About 1,500 properties in the region have lost power.
