‘Flag mix-up, diplomatic blunder’

On Press TV’s The Real Deal show, broadcasted on Monday 30 July, Galloway said exchanging the South Korean flag for the North Korean flag was “the first diplomatic blunder” at the London Olympics.

On Wednesday 25 July, women’s soccer players felt insulted when London Olympic organizers mistakenly displayed the South Korean flag on a jumbo screen instead of North Korea’s before a match.

The flag row began during the introduction of women football players that were displayed on a large jumbo screen.

A North Korean player was being introduced along with a shot of the South Korean flag beside her picture.

Despite the organizers apologies for the error, the game between North Korea and Columbia was delayed for over an hour as North Korean players refused to move onto the field.

An announcement was eventually made to the audience, apologizing for the long delay explaining it “was due to an issue behind the scenes. We’re trying to resolve it and we’ll keep you updated.”

Although, organizers for the London Olympics are responsible for maintaining peace between the nations, such mistakes especially between rivals could be seen as a very irresponsible act when dealing with harmony in globally famous international sports.
