A Florida police officer, Emil Lugo, has been caught on undercover cameras stealing county fuel for his own personal use. Officials say that he has been stealing gas for several months.
Officer Lugo can be seen on video filling up a red gas can instead of refueling the police cruiser. In other undercover videos recorded of the officer, he was seen with the same gas can in his driveway filling up a BMW belonging to his wife. Officer Lugo has been caught improperly using his Miami-Dade County access at several county locations and at his home.
The State Attorney’s Office stated, “Not only was Sergeant Lugo fueling his vehicle at a fuel station rarely used by police officers, but the computer records tracing the amounts of fuel consumed appeared to exceed the miles driven.”
The sixteen year veteran of the force was arrested Friday and charged with felony fraud. According to police, he has been relieved of duty with pay.
