Israeli occupation forces have detained five Palestinians in what has been described as a “massive” military operation in Nablus. Palestinian Red Crescent sources said that 19 people were taken to hospital after tear gas was fired by the Israelis at a crowd which had gathered to protest at the assault.
Dozens of Israeli military vehicles accompanied Special Forces as they entered several areas of the West Bank city. They broke into a number of homes and arrested the five men during the night.
Soldiers involved in the operation set an explosive device inside the house belonging to Omar al-Kharoof, who was one of those detained. Witnesses said that the explosion caused serious damage to the building, making it uninhabitable; Al-Kharoof’s family is now homeless. A number of his relatives claim that they were also subject to physical abuse by the Israeli soldiers.
