Five injured in US school shooting

The Geauga County sheriff’s office said three of those hurt are in critical condition following the shooting at Chardon High School in the small town of Chardon in northeast Ohio on Monday.

“I am happy to tell you that the student that did the shooting is captured,” an official of the sheriff’s office said.

Live television images showed anxious parents escorting children away from the school building, while multiple ambulances and an emergency helicopter could be seen outside.

Joseph Bergant, superintendent of Chardon, said on local television that the shooter is believed to be a student.

Chardon is a city of about 5,100 in northeast Ohio about 30 miles east of Cleveland. About 1,100 students attend Chardon high school. Other schools in the area were also locked down.
