According to a statement by an unnamed Yemeni security official, two Egyptian engineers and three members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who were abducted in the province of Abyan on May 7 and 13 respectively, were released on Thursday.
The Red Cross abductees were nationals from Switzerland, Kenya and Yemen, and the Egyptians were working for a local cement factory, the statement said.
“We are relieved and extremely happy to have our colleagues back with us,” said Cedric Schweizer, who heads the ICRC delegation in Yemen.
The statement did not provide any details on how the hostages were freed.
On February 27, a Swiss woman was released after one year of captivity in the hands of the al-Qaeda wing in Yemen.
