The individuals were arrested Monday evening following a months-long FBI sting operation during which the suspects unknowingly cooperated with an FBI informant.
According to local media reports quoting US authorities, the men intended to blow up an Ohio bridge linking two affluent suburbs near the major city of Cleveland.
“They talked about making a statement against corporate America and the government as some of the motivations for their actions,” said US Attorney Steven Dettelbach while announcing the arrests.
Investigations have reportedly revealed that the men had also contemplated to bomb several other targets across America.
One suspect claimed he was part of a group planning to cause trouble during an upcoming NATO summit in Chicago which is due to commence on May 20.
Court documents reportedly provide details about several conversations the FBI secretly recorded in which the agency’s informant discussed bombing plans with the suspects.
