SMOKE from a fire at a waste oil depot is blanketing a northern Adelaide suburb and led to the evacuation of workers from nearby businesses.
Firefighters are warning motorists to stay away from Wing Street, Wingfield, where a building at the oil depot containing a number of flammable liquids is on fire.
Metropolitan Fire Service commander Roy Thompson says motorists should avoid the area because smoke may reduce visibility.
“Residents in the area are advised to close doors and windows until the smoke passes,” Commander Thompson said.
People in buildings up to 150 metres from the blaze have been evacuated due to the smoke, firefighters say.
People with respiratory problems are advised to stay inside and close all doors and windows until the smoke has passed.
