A fire at a marina in Sydney’s north has ripped through a boat repair shop, destroying almost half of the building.
The fire burned down the western side of the building at the marina off Bobbin Head Road in North Turramurra.
“It destroyed about 40 per cent of that building, with a roof collapsed as well,” a NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokesman told AAP on Saturday.
“That 40 per cent of the building is totally destroyed by fire, but firefighters were able to contain it, to stop it moving to the rest of the dwelling as well.”
More than 50 firefighters extinguished the blaze just after 1pm (AEST) on Saturday.
No boats were damaged in the fire, but about 20 people were evacuated from a nearby restaurant.
Salvage operations are under way and investigators have arrived to assess the scene, the RFS spokesman said.
The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
