Fire burns out of control near SA coast

An out-of-control bushfire is raging near South Australia’s coast and poses a risk to lives and homes.

An emergency warning has been issued for Woolundunga near SA’s south-east coast, with the County Fire Service (CFS) warning people that it is burning out of control at Gunyah Road.

The shrub fire is travelling east towards Wilmington Road.

“There is a risk to lives and homes,” CFS said.

Residents are being told to take shelter when the fire arrives and protect themselves from the blaze’s heat.

Only leave now, the CFS says, if your path is clear.

Meanwhile the CFS has issued a total fire ban for the Northwest Pastoral District and the West Coast District for Friday.

Both regions are considered to be under severe fire danger.

The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from Thursday midnight to midnight on Friday.
