Film to show WikiLeaks founder’s life

German director Cyril Tuschi, known for his documentary on Russian tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky, said he is working with British screenwriter Michael Gaster on a script whose story is told through online dating encounters.

Entitled Leaks – Three dates with Harry Harrison, the movie will track Assange’s life from childhood to his rapid rise to international fame.

According to Tuschi’s producing partners Jan Kruuger and Rene Romert, the film depicts Assange as “Robin Hood of the digital age who stumbles over his own personality.”

The movie is planned to be shot in Germany next summer, with no casting decisions taken yet.

In an attempt to avoid being extradited to Sweden, Assange has sought refuge in Ecuador’s embassy in London and applied for a political asylum.

On June 21, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa expressed concerns that Assange may face death penalty if extradited to the United States, saying the charges against him could be means of political persecution.

WikiLeaks founder was accused of committing rape and other sexual crimes after the whistleblower made US’ “secret” and “top secret” documents publicly available on his WikiLeaks website, despite intense pressures from the American authorities to stop him.
