Ferguson ‘demands police board change’

An international lawyer says people in the city of Ferguson demand not only the dismissal of police officer Darren Wilson who killed an African-American teenager, but also ask for a change in the city’s police board.

“We are looking for removing not only Darren Wilson, but most of the police board,” Mustafa Ansari told Press TV on Sunday.

“And we also intend to make it a requirement that these policemen, all of them, receive human rights training, knowing how to arrest people… and knowing how to be professional,” he added.

On August 9, Wilson gunned down 18-year-old Michael Brown, claiming it was an act of self defense.

A grand jury, which is meeting in secret, is hearing from final witnesses and is expected to make a decision as early as mid-November. The jury will either indict Wilson or will decide that he should not be tried on criminal charges.

The police officer may return to work after a grand jury indictment.

Activists, however, voiced anger over the reports that Wilson is allowed to return to work if not charged by the jury.

Meanwhile, demonstrators gathered outside the Ferguson police department on Saturday, with many wearing masks and holding up their hands, the gesture Brown made as a sign of surrender before being fatally shot.

More protests are expected to break out as the town braces itself for the grand jury decision due to be announced in mid-to-late November.
