Federal judge blocks voter purge of 4,000 Georgia voters

U.S. District Judge Leslie Abrams Gardner has blocked the state of Georgia from purging thousands of voters.

Two counties, Muscogee County and Ben Hill County sought to purge these voters using unreliable data from national change-of-address forms. Gardner ruled this move was both improper and illegal as the voters were not given proper notice and it is illegal to remove voter registration rolls within 90 days of an election.

Her decision ensures that more than 4,000 voters will remain registered in those counties, allowing them to vote in upcoming Senate runoff elections in the state scheduled for next week, reports Truthout

National Democratic Party attorney Marc Elias called this move a “blow to GOP voter suppression.”
