Iconic names like Andy Griffith (“The Andy Griffith Show”), Charles Ingalls (“Little House on the Prairie”) and Cliff Huxtable (“The Cosby Show”) have long been praised as iconic, ideal television dads. Mr. Brady (“The Brady Bunch”) may be the first to leap to many minds when contemplating the legions of classic episodic pops, but let’s be real, no kid really wants a dad who rambles and quite that much, but at least those chats are an easier pill to swallow coming from a goodie-two-shoes like Mike Brady then some Polonius-esque keep your nose clean advice from crime lord like Tony Soprano (“The Sopranos”).

A host of bumbling ne’er do wells and reluctant family men such as Homer Simpson (“The Simpsons”), Peter Griffin (“Family Guy”) and Al Bundy (“Married…with Children”) have torn up the comedy scene over the years reminding everyone of their own old man’s most outlandish moments.

More recently, characters like Rick Castle (“Castle”) and Sandy Cohen (“The O.C.”) have shaken off the classic dad image and added in a layer of coolness alongside all of that parental guidance and devotion.

We’ve selected 15 more of the best and worst padres in the primetime game who, in the years to come, will stack up alongside the above mentioned icons as some of the most memorable fathers to ever beam over the airwaves.
