The past three days Fighting Against Natural Gas (FANG) has been nonviolently escalating their efforts to stop the fracked-gas power plant proposed for Burrillville and to confront other forms of injustice.
It’s all part of an unannounced Week of Action, that FANG is simply calling #theWOA. Coordinating these actions takes resources, please consider pitching in to so that FANG can sustain their work and keep the actions coming.
Check out this quick recap about what’s happened so far.
Wednesday – A group of Boston area residents delivered an “Annual Report” to National Grid at their North American headquarter building. The Report detailed how National Grid is failing our communities via their support of the LNG facility proposed for Providence, their support of the fracked-gas industry as a whole and their immoral utility shutoffs. Four people were arrested after refusing to leave.
Tuesday-A group of 15 people sat-in at Rhode Island Governor Raimondo’s office with a banner showing the local and global impacts of the fracked-gas plant proposed for Burrillville. State Police cleared everyone out, but one woman refused to leave and was placed under arrest.
Monday-Burrillville residents along with allies from across the state stormed the RI Office of Energy Resources and demanded that Commissioner Marion Gold revoke her support of Invenergy’s fracked-gas power plant. Two banners were dropped from the fourth floor of the building and residents then began a sit-in. The action prompted an impromptu meeting with the Marion Gold, who had previously refused to meet with residents.
