Fajr visual arts festival opens in Tehran

Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini attended the opening ceremony along with several other officials and artists on February 18, Press TV reported.

This year’s festival will showcase artworks in nine categories comprising painting, graphic design, pottery, illustration, miniature, and caricature.

Cartoonists from 38 countries have submitted their works.

“The works will be judged by a jury panel consisting of Iranian and foreign cartoonists,” said secretary of the event, Massoud Shojaei-Tabatabaei. “The cartoons will be judged online.”

More than 200 artists from thirty-eight countries including Brazil, China, Indonesia and Turkey will present their works during the event.

This year’s festival will include a new section titled ‘Islamic Awakening and Justice Seeking,’ showcasing works inspired by the events leading to the Arab Spring.

Works presented in this section will be exhibited until March 15, 2012. The 4th Fajr International Visual Arts Festival will run until March 4.
