Fair Work to reveal HSU action

Fair Work Australia general manager Bernadette O’Neill will spell out her response to a report into financial impropriety and workplace law breaches by Health Services Union officials next week.

Ms O’Neil has been assessing whether to take any of the findings of the 1100-page investigation report to the Federal Court and will make a statement on Monday.

The investigation found 181 contraventions of workplace laws and union rules by three former or current officials, including MP Craig Thomson, and one individual who was not an HSU official.

Ms O’Neill has agreed to release the report to a Senate committee for tabling and publication.

But Mr Thomson, who has stood aside from the Labor caucus to sit as an independent, has asked that the report not be tabled because it could prejudice court proceedings.

Ms O’Neill also referred the report to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, but the DPP found it did not constitute a brief of evidence and this week passed it on to NSW and Victorian police.
