Failed Qatari coup attempt in Kuwait

Kuwaiti police arrested a group of Qatari agents charged for overthrowing Emir Al-Sabah IV.
The seized documents corroborate the existence of a plot organized by Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani of Qatar. Copies of these documents as well as the legal proceedings were immediately transmitted by Kuwait to Saudi Arabia.
Emir al-Sabah IV requested an emergency meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council, of which Qatar is a member.
Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani himself seized power in his country by overthrowing his father, Emir Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, who is now a refugee in Switzerland.
In 2008, he prevented the election by the Lebanese Parliament of General Michel Aoun as president and successfully negotiated that of General Michel Sleiman. Soon after, he went to enthrone him at the Lebanese Parliament, not without first having arranged to discard outgoing President Emile Lahoud from the ceremony.
The Wahhabi monarch also played a central role in the overthrow of Muammar el-Qaddafi in Libya, and more recently in attempts to topple President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
