Facebook now offers ‘suggested guests’ to invite along for nights out and other events planned through the site.

The uninvited guests pop up in a window saying ‘Suggested Guests’.

They are chosen from users’ friends lists, based on whether they are likely to be interested in the night out. Facebook uses information harvested from apps such as Spotify to work out who should come along.

New ‘timeline apps’ such as Spotify offer Facebook, a ‘window’ into people’s interests by cataloguing every song they play – so the site no longer has to rely on ‘Likes’ to work out a person’s interests.

The information will be used to suggest, for instance, that you should invite someone on your friends list to a gig.

The ‘feature’ has already been rolled out to some users, Inside Facebook reports, and is currently under test.

‘Suggested guests are listed on the right side of the event page along with an invite button,’ says Inside Facebook.

‘Facebook seems to serve suggestions based on interests relevant to the event and mutual friends attending. For instance, an event page for a concert might suggest friends who listen to the artist on Spotify and could lead people to decide to go together.’

The ‘Events’ feature is being ‘tweaked’ to be more ‘personal’ – and also offers suggestions of events that people should attend, in an update rolled out late last year.

The ‘Suggested Events’ feature  ‘invites’ users to nights out that people on their friends list are attending – without waiting for them to ask first.

The feature also uses information harvested from Timeline apps.

The
events appear as a brief description, a picture and a line explaining
your connection to the event – often simply that one friend ohas indicated that they might attend.

Users can then click to say, ‘Yes’ or ‘Maybe’ to attending the event that Facebook has invited them to.

Mondeo man, Manchester, England. Birk!! You made me laugh so hard I spilled my coffee all over the keyboard!

I have deactivated my account. Quite a few people have reacted in defence to my doing this. Isnt that strange? Whats even more strange is that people can discuss political matters concerning privacy laws and such on FB. A place where they willingly provide all the information needed for sucsessfull marketing. I work in PR, and i advice many of my clients to use facebook. I do not want to be on the reciving end of this powerfull marketing tool!

Is Facebook now becoming a new religion guiding our lives? Sinister?

That picture might just represent Facebook’s ideal couple – especially from the neck up. LOL

“because I am 50 and can’t think who to invite to such events” …..oh please Facebook people ….I may be 50 … And I actually do enjoy my time on Facebook but I really do not need you to remind me of those who have the same likes as me ….. I already know !!!!! I have been alive for 50 years !!!

The ”creator” of Facebook attends the secret Bilderberg group, meeting’s.So nothing he does surprises me.

Facebook seems to be controlling the dumb masses. Glad I never joined even though I was looked down upon and told to my face I was ‘so uncool’. Who’s having the last laugh now? MEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

I’m 17 and finally made the best decision during this half term….DEACTIVATED MY ACCOUNT!!!! Facebook is a complete and utter pile of rubbish, full stop! seriously though, kids would be so much better if Facebook weren’t around. So vain…albums dedicated to dozens of photoshopped pictures of themselves…….! Not to mention the bullying from low lives behind a computer screen… Zzzzzzz!

Well I am sure this isn’t new but I think if I make an event I would know already who to invite!!!

I wouldn’t invite that couple in the picture……Headless…there’d be no conversation.
