Facebook Planning Big Changes for Windows Phone App [PICS]

If you recently picked up one of the new Windows Phones like the Nokia Lumia 900 or HTC Titan II, Facebook just gave you some good news. A new version of the social network’s Windows Phone app is almost ready, and it adds many new features.

An update on the Facebook for Windows Phone timeline, explains the update. The new version of the app (release 2.5) is “close” and in the final round of testing, the post reads. Users played a strong role in prioritizing which features would be included in this update.

“We read every comment you submit on Facebook,” the Facebook for Windows Phone team writes, “through email, and through the Marketplace, we use them to plan features for releases and we really appreciate all the work you put into feeding back. We’re listening.”

Although the new features have been familiar to iOS and Android users of Facebook for a while, each one had to be re-crafted completely for Windows Phone’s unique layout style, called Metro. Here’s a roundup of the new features coming to the app:

  • Threaded messaging, letting you see an entire conversation between you and another person (or a group) instead of just individual notes.
  • Tagging, so users can finally tag their friends with the “@” symbol or use the “with” function in status updates.
  • Deleting posts and comments, which should help put users a little more at ease about “accidentally” posting embarrassing photos.
  • Active links in posts, will take users directly to the page being linked.
  • Improved photo comments, with a layout that matches how comments are displayed on status updates. As with other Metro designs, you see a hint of the pic at the top of the page — simply pull down to see it.
  • Liking comments, if you can never get enough Like button.

Facebook and Microsoft‘s relationship has always been warm, and the recent patent deal shows the two companies are growing even closer. While other companies often need financial incentives to develop apps for Windows Phone, Facebook’s pro-active approach is a clear benefit of friendly relations between the two tech titans.

Below are some images of the coming updated posted by the Facebook for Windows Phone team.
