‘Extra-regional powers fuel insecurity’

The Islamic Republic of Iran and other regional countries have the potential to establish security and stability in the region without any support from foreign powers, Vahidi told IRNA on Monday.

Extra-regional powers cannot establish security in the region, he emphasized.

The Iranian minister reiterated that regional security must only be strengthened by regional countries and through close ties and collaborative efforts.

Any other options, he said, including the presence of extra-regional powers, will certainly fail to bring security to the region, Vahidi pointed out.

He further added those that manage the global arrogant establishment can guarantee their survival only through warmongering and hegemonic efforts.

The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of combating terrorism and toppling the Taliban regime.

However, insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of thousands of US-led foreign forces in the country.

Meanwhile, the US, whose navy’s fifth fleet is stationed in the Bahraini capital, Manama, has provided support for the Al Khalifa despotic regime during months of crackdown on peaceful protesters in the Persian Gulf state.

US military has had major presence in most countries of the region, including, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates, with a publicly declared objective to protect its own interests in the region.

Some Persian Gulf dictatorships, however, claim that they host US and other military forces in their country for security purposes.
