The explosion occurred in an area on Kabul-Jalalabad road on Wednesday, triggering a huge fire, AFP quoted Afghan Public Health Ministry spokesman Ghulam Sakhi Kargar Noorughli as saying.
Twenty of the injured people are reportedly in critical condition while many others suffered severe burns.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the explosion, but a security source said it was probably triggered by an electrical fault.
On Tuesday, a fire at a market in the city left 3 people dead and wounded 28 others.
