The senior Foreign Ministry official said the Iranian inmates, who had been arrested and put on trial five years ago on charges of allegedly possessing narcotics, were denied the right to a lawyer or consular access.
He said Iranian officials in Tehran and Riyadh made every effort to stop the executions.
After reports about the execution of Iranian inmates in Saudi jails were confirmed, Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Saudi Arabia’s chargé d’affaires on Monday.
The Foreign Ministry expressed the Islamic Republic’s strong objection to the executions, announcing that Tehran will pursue the case through relevant bodies.
