Ex-deputy premier appointed to water body

Former NSW deputy premier Ian Armstrong has been appointed as chairman of a state government catchment authority.

Primary Industries Minister Katrina Hodgkinson, a National, asked Mr Armstrong, a 74-year-old former Nationals leader, to head the Lachlan Catchment Management Authority (CMA).

The catchment area in the state’s central west also overlaps with the former state seat of Lachlan, which Mr Armstrong held for 26 years until it was abolished in 2007.

“Mr Armstrong, who represented the region as the member for Lachlan in the NSW parliament, and was deputy premier, has a broad experience and expertise with land management,” Ms Hodgkinson said in a statement.

Guyra mayor Hans Hietbrink has been appointed as the chairman of the Border-Rivers Gwydir CMA, in the far north of NSW.

Conrad Bolton, who has spent eight years on the Narrabri Shire Council, will head the Namoi CMA, also in northern NSW.

The appointments begin in August for a term of two years, to oversee water management in farming areas.
