Referring to recent parliamentary election held on March 2, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said the elections were completely healthy and free and were held in line with the people’s demands.
“Our people have achieved political maturity and cannot be deceived,” he said, adding that the people do not blame the Islamic establishment for certain problems and are present in all political arenas when necessary.
Ayatollah Jannati stated that the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei had warned people against enemy plots many months before the election and the Leader’s warnings greatly increased the insight of the people.
“Every vote cast by people was a slap in the enemy’s face. We must thank [people] for this high turnout because it has blinded and disappointed the enemy…,” Tehran’s interim Friday Prayers leader added.
Ayatollah Jannati stated that although there were many lists of candidates in Majlis election, people did not elect their lawmakers according to those lists, but chose their candidates with intelligence.
Turning to the situation in Bahrain, Ayatollah Jannati described the issue of Bahrain as “sorrowful” and said, “The crime of the Bahraini people is that they want every person to have a vote and [the way they are treated proves that] the US claims of democracy are false.”
