EU Official Says Paris Attackers Were Not Refugees

A senior EU official has claimed that every one of the radicals identified so far in Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris are European Union nationals.

The announcement casts even further doubt on the authenticity of a Syrian passport discovered on or near the body of one of the attackers.

Uncut reprots:

“Let me underline—the profile of the terrorists so far identified tells us this is an internal threat. It is all EU citizens so far. This can change with the hours, but so far it is quite clear it is an issue of internal domestic security,” High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini stated, following a gathering of EU foreign ministers.

So far, it appears most of the perpetrators have been tied to France and Belgium, though the investigation is not yet concluded. One Egyptian passport was also found. However, Egypt’s ambassador to France, Ihab Badawi, has claimed that passport belongs to an innocent victim rather than one of the attackers.

The discovery of the Syrian passport instilled a fearful backlash across both Europe and the U.S., prompting several officials to insist on suspending their acceptance of Syrian refugees in their regions. Several states in the U.S. have since attempted to nix funding for the refugee settlement program, though other sources are reporting U.S. governors do not actually hold the power to refuse the refugees.

Despite the latest knowledge on the origins of Friday’s attackers, the Independent reports one man carrying a Syrian passport was apprehended in Serbia, even as officials in the U.S. are stating the Syrian passport may be fake, as reported by CBS News.
