Civilian police staff in England and Wales have voted in favor of taking industrial action over a pay dispute.
On Tuesday, around 60 percent of Britain’s biggest trade union, UNISON, voted in favor of going on strike in response to a one-percent pay raise offer.
Following salary freezes or below inflation rises for three consecutive years, unions are calling for a three-percent rise in wages.
“These results send a clear message that after two years of pay freeze and last year’s below inflation pay rise, police staff have had enough and that they are now ready to take industrial action over pay,” said UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis.
Civilian police staff encompass a wide range of operational and organizational support roles, including call takers, community support officers, and fingerprint experts.
