Embrace Your Inner Dork and Prep for Sunday’s Solar Eclipse

The only solar eclipse of 2013 is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning. If you’re the type of person who thinks this sort of thing is cool, just pull out your eclipse-viewing filters, your No. 14 welding glass, your pinhole camera, your colander, or your crisscrossed fingers. The partial eclipse will be visible along the east coast and as far inland as Tennessee, Ohio, and southern Ontario.

If you’re far away, don’t want to get out of bed, or don’t have the right eye wear, just use this link to watch via live feed.

If you need further persuading to continue your goofily clad halloween weekend into the morning, the percentage of the Sun that will be eclipsed by the moon will vary by city: 54% in Boston, 48% in New York, 44% in Philadelphia, 35% in Washington, 36% in Miami, and 6% in Akron. Finally, here is a sunrise calculator to help you decide the best time to step outside.

Here are the best times to view the eclipse on the East Coast, weather permitting:

New York: 6:29 a.m.

D.C.: 6:38 a.m.

Boston: 6:20 a.m.

Baltimore: 6:37 a.m.

Raleigh: 6:39 a.m.

Happy viewing!
