A millionaire Wall Street banker has been arrested after a woman was violently pushed in front of a bus on a bridge in London.
The Metropolitan Police said it had arrested a 50-year-old U.S. man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
Officers had appealed for witnesses after the 33-year-old woman was knocked into the path of the oncoming bus and only survived due to the quick reflexes of the double-decker bus driver.
Millionaire American investment banker Eric Bellquist has been arrested, but he claims he has indisputable evidence that he was in the United States at the time of the crime.
The 50-year-old was arrested by London authorities Thursday morning on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. However, police released Bellquist after questioning him, though he remains under investigation.
Human rights advocates are up in arms after police released the Wall Street banker, claiming he is receiving special treatment because of his wealth.
“He should not have been released while he is under investigation. He now has the opportunity to use his millions to buy his way out of trouble. Will underhanded officials take a bribe to provide some sort of false passport information? He could pay people a huge amount to provide false alibis.”
Video of the incident was released by Scotland Yard earlier this week, showing a man jogging over Putney Bridge and going out of his way to intentionally push a woman into the path of a red double-decker bus.
The bus driver managed to swerve at the last minute, narrowly avoiding running over the 33-year-old woman’s head.
Police said the victim received minor injuries and that people nearby came to her aid.
The psychopathic jogger returned to the scene of the crime 15 minutes later as he made his way back across the bridge, but he ignored the victim and did not acknowledge her when she attempted to speak with him, according to police.
