An elderly fisherman who clung to his boat after it capsized in waters off Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula has been plucked to safety.
The man, 72, had gone fishing with another man about 5am (AEDT) on Wednesday when their boat got into trouble south of Melbourne and overturned, police said.
He clung to his boat while the other man, 62, swam to shore at Rosebud to get help.
The 72-year-old was then rescued by the coast guard, with help from the water police, air wing and southern peninsula rescue squad volunteers.
He was treated by paramedics on Rosebud pier and later taken to the Frankston hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
The 62-year-old, from Reservoir in Melbourne’s north, was taken to Rosebud Hospital also suffering hypothermia.
