Eight-year-old girl lost in WA dies

An eight-year-old girl who went missing from a remote West Australian Aboriginal community on New Year’s Eve has died.

Danielle Lane went missing after she left Tjirrkarli Aboriginal Community, 180km northwest of Warburton, about midday (WST) on December 31.

She was in the company of 38-year-old Augustine Winter Miller, who police said were known to each other.

An air search for the pair spotted the 2001 White Holden Commodore vehicle they were in about 2pm (WST) on Tuesday, around 25km from the community.

But the girl was severely dehydrated and lapsed into unconsciousness soon after police arrived, the ABC reported on Wednesday.

They performed CPR on her until medical staff from Warburton arrived but were unable to revive her.

Police are reportedly treating the death as suspicious and have taken Mr Miller into custody.
