TCP : President Abdel Fatah al Sisi met Saturday with visiting commander of U.S Central Command (CENTCOM) Joseph L. Votel and discussed ways to boost bilateral cooperation in the security and military domains, presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef announced in a statement.
Sisi stressed the importance of Egypt-U.S. coordination to counter the current security threats and challenges in the Middle East, according to Youssef.
From his side, Votel asserted Egypt’s pivotal role as a cornerstone to achieve stability and security in the region and reaffirmed his country’s sustained commitment to enhance strategic relation with Egypt.
Votel also praised Egypt’s counter-terrorism strategy in addition to its commitment to achieve political transition, Youssef added.
Votel’s visit to Egypt comes as part of his multi-stop tour of the Middle East started with Lebanon on Friday. It is his first trip to the region since landing on the job of CENTCOM commander late March.
