Mr Morsi arrived in California three years after the end of the state’s
Republican Governor Ronald Reagan’s term in office. Reagan was replaced in
1975 by Democrat Jerry Brown, who was elected in the wake of Watergate and
Richard Nixon’s resignation. Brown, who is also the state’s current
governor, held office until 1983.
During Mr Morsi’s time at USC, the private research university celebrated its
centennial and the college’s famous marching band, known at The Spirit of
Troy, was asked by Fleetwood Mac to perform on its platinum-selling album
Tusk.
