“The news is incorrect and not published on the Multinational Force & Observers (MFO) official webpage which includes all the details of the present troops including numbers, deployment and functions,” said Samir, who described the media reports as “groundless.”

On Saturday, several international media outlets reported that the Pentagon has shifted more than 100 U.S. soldiers from a desert camp near the Egypt-Israeli border in the Sinai Peninsula after a series of attacks by militants linked to the Islamic State group(IS.)

The MFO was “formed under a protocol in which the 12 participating countries are committed to its standards,” said Samir who stressed that the camp was not subject to any kind of attack.

He called on local news outlets to verify news before publishing and not to be “deceived by lies and rumors propagated by suspicious foreign media outlets.”

Based in Italy with peacekeeping responsibilities in Sinai, MFO is an independent organization created following the 1979 Camp David Peace Treaty signed between Egypt and Israel to ensure the implementation of the treaty.
