Egypt junta lashes out at MB over criticism

The Brotherhood’s political wing, Freedom and Justice Party, which won a landslide victory in recent parliamentary elections, issued a statement on Saturday, accusing the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) of supporting, what it called, a dysfunctional cabinet. The statement said the government’s performance had been the ‘biggest failure,’ listing unrest, interference in the judiciary, and stalling of reforms.

The head of the SCAF, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, released a statement on Sunday, expressing ‘extreme indignation’ over the MB’s questioning of its motives.

Tantawi called “on all to be aware of history’s lessons, to avoid past mistakes, we do not want to see repeated.”

The Brotherhood’s statement had also accused the junta of stalling the popular revolution that ousted long-reigning former dictator, Hosni Mubarak, last year. “If anyone intends to recreate the former corrupt regime with new faces, the people are willing to move again in order to revive their revolution.”
