Eco Wine Review: Lynmar Estate 2008 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

© Lynmar Estate Winery

Lynmar Estate’s 2008 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a delicate balance of dark fruit, cocoa, pepper and mushroom. And it all works. The nose is so enticing that I almost didn’t want to drink it at fear of disappointment. Luckily, this wine is superb! It retails for $40, which is can be a bit tough on the pocket book, but it tastes like it is worth at least triple that. You can buy it online at Lynmar’s website.

Perfect for any mushroom-based recipe like most Pinot Noirs but I plan to make a mushroom and truffle bruschetta for this particular gem.

Lynmar Estate has 40-something acres of grape vines, nine of which are over 40 years old. The others are a wooly mix of ornamental and edible fruits and vegetables, which literally grow up together side-by-side. This produce is then given to a local charity where high school students prepare healthy, whole-food meals for cancer and AIDS patients. All that, and they are sustainable too! This particular wine was fermented with only native yeast and is both unfined and unfiltered, meaning it is also vegan. Age it for up to eight years.
