Dying robber’s threat to driver

The accused getaway driver for a thief who was fatally wounded in a bungled robbery had met his alleged partner in crime only a week before.

Among the robber’s last words were ”hide everything or I will kill you”.

Mohammed Abdul Baseer, 26, last saw Azzam Issam Naboulsi, 30, bleeding to death in a street in Sydney’s south-west on Tuesday after he drove from the scene, court documents allege.

They had just left the nearby Yagoona home of Donald Brooke, 54, who faces possible charges over the stabbing death of Naboulsi.

Baseer appeared in Bankstown Local Court yesterday charged with being an accessory after the fact to break, enter and steal and hindering a police investigation.

He did not enter a plea but was granted strict conditional bail.

The overseas student was emotionless when Magistrate Gary Still reviewed the police statement of facts.

”The circumstances in which he comes before the court are tragic, there’s no doubt about that,” Mr Still said.

Naboulsi was already on bail for 16 other offences including break and enter, possessing a knife in public, possessing items to break into homes and larceny.

The facts tendered to the court allege Baseer drove Naboulsi to two premises on Monday.

The pair met again on Tuesday and Naboulsi went to two homes and came back to the car both times with a bag full of items.

Baseer told police he did not ask Naboulsi where he got the items.

Naboulsi then asked Baseer to wait in the car while he entered the home of Mr Brooke, who was in his garage at the back of the premises.

A short time later Mr Brooke interrupted Naboulsi, who had already stolen some items. The robber then threatened Mr Brooke with a stun gun.

Mr Brooke allegedly produced a flick knife and stabbed Mr Naboulsi in the chest and arms.

The injured man then fled and got into the car driven by Baseer.

He told him to drive to a hospital but Baseer did not know the way and pulled over in the Fairfield area, where they flagged down a passer-by, who rang 000.

Mr Naboulsi told Baseer, ”Hide everything or I will kill you”, the court documents state, before Baseer drove from the scene.

Baseer returned home and allegedly hid the stun gun and items Naboulsi had with him after visiting some of the properties.

Naboulsi died in hospital on Tuesday night and Baseer later told police he placed the items in a friend’s car and secreted the stun gun under a pile of leaves outside his block of flats.

Police are still waiting to interview Mr Brooke. Naboulsi was buried yesterday. AAP
