Wade connected on 14-of-25 shooting or 56 percent, which is 12 points higher than his average field goal efficiency in the playoffs. This was exactly the type of performance the Heat needed from Wade, particularly since they were trailing the series 2-1 heading into Game 4.
“I needed a game like this, but my teammates needed a game like this from me,” said Wade. “(My team) needed me to be aggressive and needed me to play the way that I’m capable of. Most importantly, they needed the Big Three to play the way that we’re capable of.”
The Heat’s triumvirate did, in fact, deliver. In addition to Wade’s performance, LeBron James added 33 points with 11 rebounds and Chris Bosh scored 20 points to go with his 13 rebounds. Collectively, the Heat’s All-Star trio accounted for 78 percent of the Heat’s point production in Game 4.
The Spurs certainly didn’t help their cause by committing 19 total turnovers in the game. Miami capitalized on San Antonio’s lack of ball protection by scoring 23 points off turnovers.
“The turnovers obviously hurt us,” said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. “We can’t give them over 20 points off turnovers. They’re too good.”
The series resumes with Game 5 on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. PT.
