Dutch Investigators arrive at MH17 Crash Site

nsnbc : A team of Dutch investigators has arrived at the crash site of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in eastern Ukraine. The team visits the site before the expected publication of the final report on MH17 that is expected to be published on October 13.

MH17_wreckage_Holes_CRGThe team of investigators from the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) arrived in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) on Monday. The team continues the international investigation into the tragic downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that claimed the lives of all 298 souls on board the Boeing 777-200.

The arrival of the investigators was confirmed by the DPR’s Prosecutor General, Andrey Spivak who added that a meeting with the investigators is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777-200 was shot down on flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on July 17 2014. The airliner crashed some 60 km from the Russian border.

The preliminary report issued by the DSB failed to answer a series of pressing questions; Such as the question why the plane was routed on a more northerly route on July 17, at a lower flight level than requested, and above a known combat area.

About two third of the passengers of the Malaysian airliner were Dutch citizens. The decision to task the DSB as lead agency was based on that fact, and on the fact that the Ukrainian government is one of the conflicting parties. The airliner has been impacted by high-velocity projectiles, stated the DSB’s preliminary report.

On July 21, 2014, the UN Security Council demanded a full and unbiased investigation into the downing of the airliner. The downing of the flight MH17 prompted a storm of mutual accusations between Kiev and the DPR as well as between Russia and NATO member States.

Even though the DSB may issue a final report on October 13, there will remain serious and justified doubts about whether the bereft families and the worldwide flying public ever will hear the full truth about the causes of the tragedy.

Australia, the United Kingdom, the USA, Russia, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Malaysia have all contributed with investigators, thus binding their governments to the Dutch Kingdom Act. The act exempts the DSB from the Dutch Open Government (FOIA) act. That is, nothing but the final report will be made available for independent investigative journalists and media.
