Dry ice dare lands teacher in court

A teacher at a NSW high school is facing assault charges after allegedly daring Year Seven students to hold dry ice in their hands during a science class.

A parent made a complaint to police after several children at the Terrigal school suffered serious burns on February 29.

The 49-year-old teacher has been charged with occasioning grievous bodily harm through negligence and assaulting a school student.

He will appear in Gosford Local Court on June 19.

“The teacher has been suspended from the teaching register pending the outcome of the case,” a Department of Education spokesman told AAP.
