Drunk Zamboni Driver: Joel Bruss Pleads Guilty To Drunk Driving (UPDATE)

UPDATE: JOE Bruss pleaded guilty on May 31 to driving a Zamboni drunk. He had a blood alcohol content of .32, according to WCCO. Below is a previous report on his arrest.

March 3 — Rule number one of being a part-time rink attendant: Don’t drink and Zamboni.

Joel K. Bruss’s blood-alcohol level of 0.32 percent put him four times over Minnesota’s legal driving limit when pee-wee hockey players and their parents were treated to watching the 34-year-old swivel and swerve across the ice, the Star Tribune reports.

Those witnesses called cops on Jan. 30 to report that Bruss was literally bouncing off the walls.

Police arrived at the Hayes Ice Arena in Apple Valley, Minn., shortly after 8 p.m. to find Bruss struggling to free the Zamboni from being stuck between the ice and the rink’s outer walkway, according to KAAL.

“Once Bruss got off the machine, the officer smelled alcohol on his breath and noted that he was ‘extremely unsteady’ and was hanging onto the Zamboni to keep his balance,” the Star Tribune wrote.

Bruss later admitted to drinking at home before driving himself and eventually submitted a urine test to measure his blood-alcohol level.

KARE-11 published cell phone footage captured by one of the witnesses.

“Are you kidding me?” one of the kids can be overhead saying in the video.

Bruss, who has two prior DUI convictions, is charged with four counts of drunk driving. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 19.
