A head-on highway smash in western Victoria has killed two drivers and sent a little girl to hospital.
Police say the two vehicles travelling in opposite directions collided on the Hamilton Highway near Penshurst, about 275km west of Melbourne, late on Saturday afternoon.
A 35-year-old woman and a girl, aged between three and four, were taken to hospital but the woman died a short time later.
A 60-year-old woman driving alone in the other car died in the scene.
Her husband had been driving in another vehicle behind her when the crash happened and escaped uninjured.
Officers are continuing to investigate a cause of the crash.
The double fatality brings the state’s road toll to 148 victims, or 20 less than at the same point last year.
