So you’re a teenage girl and you’re bewildered by boys.
Who better to ask than Don Draper, or at least the actor who plays the 1960s ad man on television’s “Mad Men?”
Rookie (www.rookiemag.com), the girls-only website curated by teen fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson, invited Jon Hamm — looking world-weary in a three-day stubble and red T-shirt — to appear in its latest “Ask A Grown Man” segment.
Fielding email questions from Rookie readers on a smartphone, Hamm first helped Britney, who is “16-ish,” comprehend her “flipflopper” boyfriend who can’t decide whether or not to commit with her.
“Give the guy a break,” advised Hamm, 41, who seemed to be nursing a Draperesque hangover with his furrowed brow.
“Maybe he’ll change his mind. Maybe you’ll change you mind. The world’s your oyster… and don’t define yourself by who wants to get with you. I’m sure your a lovely person, Britney. Enjoy that.”
From L: how are boys swayed by a girl’s fashion style?
“I think you should dress and have your own style,” Hamm responded. “Don’t go around trying to please guys. It’s impossible. It’s like going around trying to please girls. You’ll never do it.”
S, 16, said she was eager to “do stuff” with her reluctant boyfriend of three weeks.
Said Hamm: “If it’s making out, then he should want to do that. It’s super fun. If it’s having sex… he’s probably right to say slow your roll.”
On the embarrassment of flatulence, something of a running Rookie in-joke: “I was under the impression girls never farted,” the actor said.
And by way of conclusion: “You’re probably all too young to watch ‘Mad Men,’ so, I don’t know, enjoy ‘The Hunger Games.'”
